CHICAGO – Equality Illinois, the state’s civil rights organization for LGBTQ+ Illinoisans, on Thursday announced state legislative and county-level endorsements for the primary election on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
“Equality Illinois is excited to announce 72 pro-equality, pro-family endorsements today as we continue to make our state fairer and more just for LGBTQ+ people,” said Mike Ziri, Director of Public Policy at Equality Illinois. “Illinois is a beacon of equality and inclusion for both LGBTQ+ residents and visitors. For instance, since the 2024 election, an estimated 400,000 transgender people have fled their home states for safer ones, such as Illinois. Ensuring our beacon continues to shine brightly is essential in 2026 and beyond as LGBTQ+ people across the country continue to face unrelenting attacks by the federal administration. The 72 endorsed individuals will continue to advance our progress as we keep fighting together for equality and inclusion for all LGBTQ+ residents and visitors in Illinois.”
Equality Illinois, a 501(c)(4) organization, engages in the advocacy and electoral processes to defend and advance full equality, justice, and fairness for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families in Illinois. Endorsements are based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, responses on candidate questionnaires, voting records, support for and connections with the LGBTQ+ community generally, and engagement with local LGBTQ+ community groups.  Additional endorsements may be added at a later date. * denotes an LGBTQ+ candidate
