Chicago, IL — Howard Brown Health, one of the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ affirming federally qualified health centers, today announced the appointment of Dr. Justin M. List, MD, MAR, MSc, FACP as Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. List is a nationally recognized physician executive whose career has focused on integrating health equity into quality improvement and patient safety systems. Most recently, he served as Director of Health Care Outcomes for the Veterans Health Administration within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Health Equity. In that role, he led national efforts to reduce disparities in chronic disease management, strengthen patient safety culture, and address bias in clinical decision support algorithms.

Prior to his federal leadership role, Dr. List served as Assistant Vice President in NYC Health + Hospitals central office and Chief Quality Officer at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, overseeing quality and performance improvement across more than 30-site ambulatory network serving more than 100,000 patients. His initiatives included cancer screening efforts, chronic disease collaboratives, and clinician well-being programming.

A board-certified internist and Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. List completed his medical degree at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and residency training at the Yale Internal Medicine Primary Care program and holds graduate degrees in ethics and health services research. He completed fellowship training in the Robert Wood Johnson/VA Clinical Scholars Program. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on health equity, public health, chronic disease prevention, and medical ethics.
