David Anthony Hawkins, 66, of Chicago’s Lake View neighborhood, passed away March 12, after a long battle with respiratory illness.

Born in Chicago and raised in Roscoe Village, David graduated from Schurz High School. He attended Northeastern Illinois University for three years before joining the U.S. Army, from which he retired to join the Honolulu Police Force.
David returned to Chicago in 1990. In 1991, he met the man to whom he would commit in 2000 and marry in 2016, Aaron Teson. He served as both bartender and assistant general manager of Charlie’s Chicago, 3726 N. Broadway; David worked there from 1993 until his retirement in 2006 due to pulmonary health issues.
David and his husband traveled and enjoyed life together. David was always in search of joy and fun. He could and would talk to absolutely anyone and sincerely loved it when people around him were having a good time.
Beloved husband of ten years to Aaron J. Teson, loving father of Jamie (Nichols) Hambrick, very proud grandfather of Ashley, Tyler, Mason, and Nixon, dear son of Gilbert and Chris Hawkins.
He is also survived by his beloved Bassett Hound, Harper. Without Harper, David would have succumbed earlier. She really kept him going and misses her daddy.
Services were held at Wil’s Martini Lounge in Andersonville.
