Center on Halsted has announced the creation of CenterPages, a recommended reading list for Chicago’s GLBT community. In a statement, Chris Taylor, the organization’s director of community and cultural programs, said that ‘with the inaugural reading list, we are celebrating LGBT history month with three nonfiction books about LGBT history and a novel about an enduring love story of two young women.’

Among the recommended books are Randy Shilts’ first major book about the AIDS epidemic, And The Band Played On, as well as Mama’s Boy, a memoir by Kevin Jennings, founder of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).

CenterPages will rotate book titles each quarter. The center is also accepting book nominations from the public via e-mail at culture@centeronhalsted.org.

Look for the first Center on Halsted CenterPages book displays at Borders Uptown, 4718 N. Broadway, and the Lincoln Park Borders, 2817 N Clark. Additional bookstores and locations will be announced soon.
