There will be a candlelight vigil remembering trans victims of hate crime on Nov. 20 at the corner of Roscoe and Halsted in the 7-11 parking lot. The event, sponsored by Illinois Gender Advocates, will take place at dusk.
The Day of Rememberance is a global annual vigil held in memory of trans victims of hate crime. The event is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on Nov. 28, 1998, started the ‘Remembering Our Dead’ Web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999.
Among the speakers will be Bill Greaves of the City of Chicago, Rick Garcia of Equality Illinois, Stevie Conlon of Illinois Gender Advocates and Center on Halsted’s Laura Velasquez. For more info, see www.GenderAdvocates.org.
