French feminist writer, activist and theorist Monique Wittig, 67, has died in Tucson, Ariz. She moved to the states in the mid 1970s when she felt ostracized by the straight women entering the French feminist movement, which had helped lead. Her book The Lesbian Body was considered among her best—and most violent, reports the Tribune. She felt ‘lesbians are not women’ but a separate class of people free from traditional gender restraints.
