Maurice “JacJac” Blandin Jr., a young gay man who went missing in late April has been found dead, according to his father. He was 21 years old.
Blandin was active in Chicago’s ball scene and had a large community of friends, many of whom stayed at his South Side home on weekends.
Blandin was reported missing April 28 after he left his home in the middle of the night and did not return.
He was last heard from at Navy Pier, where police traced his last phone calls. Friends, family and LGBT community members had been searching for Blandin for nearly three weeks.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner, Blandin’s cause of death was drowning. The reason for his drowning has not been officially determined.
Services will be held Saturday, May 26, at Leak & Sons Funeral Home, 18400 S. Pulaski Rd., Country Club Hills, at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers and family donations, Blandin’s family has asked that donations be made to an account in his name (USAA Federal Savings Bank, routing #3140742269 account # 41017692). Money collected will be donated in Blandin’s name to an organization that deals with suicide prevention.
