Charles Perry will speak on ‘The Briggs Initiative: A Thirty-Year Retrospective’ Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m., as part of Gerber/Hart Library’s ‘The Cutting Edge: Young Scholars Share Their Work’ lecture series.
Perry will discuss the history of California’s Proposition Six, otherwise known as the Briggs Initiative—a statewide ballot measure put forth in 1978 that proposed barring gay men and lesbians from being employed by California public schools as teachers and in other positions.
