Cook County’s Democratic Party has endorsed Illinois state Sen. Kwame Raoul, not former Gov. Pat Quinn, for attorney general, CBS 2 Chicago reported.

The Democratic nomination for the statewide office is available after Attorney General Lisa Madigan said she would not seek re-election.

On Nov. 3, candidates for the nomination spoke with Cook County Democrats. Several candidates, including Quinn, asked the leaders not to endorse any single individual, saying they should instead support an open primary or wait until filing ends.

Raoul urged the committeemen to endorse him not based on his promises or positions, but based on his past actions.
