Due to low turnout for their combined Affinity/Lambda Legal contingent in the annual Bud Billiken Parade, the five people who did show up did not actually go through the long parade Aug. 11. The groups were going to mark 19 years after Lambda Legal assisted in mediating negotiations between parade organizers and a Black LGBT group after they were denied entry. Key members of the group, then known as The Ad Hoc Committee of Proud Black Lesbians and Gays, continued to work together, ultimately founding the organization now known as Affinity. The mediation was Lambda Legal’s first action in Chicago after the opening of the Midwest Regional Office. Pictured are the people who did show up. More photos from the parade online.
