Mykal Kilgore—an openly gay singer who is a 2020 NAACP Image Award nominee for Outstanding New Artist—will be performing Friday, Jan. 31, at The Promontory, 5311 S. Lake Park Ave. West., 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Kilgore’s artistry involves elements of gospel, R&B and country music. His newest work is entitled A Man Born Black.

A native Floridian, Kilgore moved to Nashville as a hopeful singer and songwriter after attending Florida State University. Eventually, his voice caught the attention of Tony and Grammy winner Billy Porter—which led to Kilgore landing on Broadway.
