The Fairygodmother Foundation—which grants wishes to adults facing terminal illness with one year or less to live—will be closing its doors effective Friday, Oct. 31.

In a press release (and on the Web site), Gerald Cholewa, chairman of the board of directors, cited the struggling economy as the main reason for the foundation’s dissolution. The organization granted over 1,000 wishes in all 50 states.

The organization helped patients with a variety of ailments, including HIV/AIDS.
