The Chicago Red Stars have updated the status of the club’s roster as the team prepares for the 2023 season.

With 13 players already under contract at least through next season, the team has picked up 2023 options on five players and extended new offers to two more.

Players whose options were exercised included defender Tatumn Milazzo, forward Ella Stevens, defender Kayla Sharples, defender Bianca St-Georges and goalkeeper Emily Boyd.

Midfielder Sarah Luebbert and defender Zoe Morse are both out of contract but have received new offers from the club. The two players do not qualify as free agents under the new collective bargaining agreement between the NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League) and the NWSLPA (the National Women’s Soccer League Players Association). Midfielders Danielle Colaprico, Morgan Gautrat and Vanessa Dibernardo as well as forwards Kealia Watt and Rachel Hill are free agents under the new CBA; the team hopes to bring these players back to Chicago for 2023.

Midfielder Channing Foster and Defender Mikenna McManus have been waived and are free to sign with another team.

The Red Stars now have 18 players under contract heading into the 2023 season.

—The Chicago Bulls (6-9) fell to the host New Orleans Pelicans (9-6) 124-110 on Nov. 16.

CJ McCollum scored 23 points and Jonas Valanciunas added 22 as the Pelicans won their second straight game without Zion Williamson in the lineup, ESPN noted.

DeMar DeRozan scored 28 points and Zach LaVine had 25 for Chicago. The Bulls have dropped three straight, starting with their home loss to New Orleans on Nov. 9.

If there’s any consolation for Chicago, it’s that the team has the same current record as the Golden State Warriors—the defending NBA champions.

The Bulls next host Orlando on Friday, Nov. 18.

—At the United Center on Nov. 16, the St. Louis Blues (7-8-0) defeated the Chicago Blackhawks (6-7-3) by the score of 5-2.

Chicago lost for the fourth time in five games. Andreas Athanasiou scored twice for Chicago, and Arvid Soderblom made 30 stops, per ESPN.

The Blackhawks will next visit the Boston Bruins on Saturday, Nov. 19.

—In another Blackhawks-related matter, Hall of Famer Marian Hossa said he’d like to take on a more active role with the team.

Ahead of a Nov. 20 retirement ceremony in his honor (ahead of the Blackhawks’ game against Pittsburgh), Hossa said, “Definitely like to be a small part with the Blackhawks organization. I know it’s been a long time but try to make sure I’m going to make the right decision with what part I will take,” according to ESPN.

After signing a 12-year, $63.3 million contract with Chicago in free agency, Hossa helped the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup for the first time since 1961 when the team prevailed in 2010.

Hossa will become the eighth player to have his number retired by Chicago, joining a list that includes Glenn Hall, Pierre Pilote, Keith Magnuson, Stan Mikita, Bobby Hull, Denis Savard and Tony Esposito.
