National Endowment of the Arts Chairman Rocco Landesman has announced that the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), in partnership with the Departments of Community Development (DCD) and Zoning and Land Use Planning (DZP), have been awarded a $250,000 grant to initiate the next stage of planning for the transformation of four landmark industrial buildings into the Cermak Creative Industry District (CCID). The grant will go toward providing affordable and sustainable spaces for a vibrant mix of creative businesses and work spaces for the arts.
Chicago’s project is one of 21 grants, totaling $3 million, awarded by the NEA Mayors’ Institute on City Design 25th Anniversary Initiative (MICD 25). The grants—ranging from $25,000 to $250,000—re going to communities across the United States, from Easton, Penn., to Los Angeles, Calif.
Information on all 21 MICD25 projects around the country is available at www.arts.gov.
