Los Angeles, CA- July 5, 2018-It’s 2018, and in comedy clubs and theatres and clubs across America, the average patron will be hard pressed to find a wide range of representation of LGBT, disabled, Asian and POC headliner comedians. It isn’t because they don’t exist, and haven’t existed for decades. The issue of the lack of opportunities and exposure for comics who aren’t straight and white is still one that looms largely in the comedy world.
Fresh off of the screening tour of a documentary film “A Tough Act To Follow”, which takes a look at the issue, Sampson McCormick (BET, VICELAND, TV One) a veteran, black LGBT stand-up comedian, who was among one of the first of note in the country, is touring to remind the public of the beauty and necessity of diversity in comedy, and most of all, that funny is funny! He’ll be doing so with a stop in Chicago, performing at Bru Chicago Cafe (inside the Speakeasy) 1562 N Milwaukee Ave. on Aug. 2, 2018.
Sampson McCormick is an experience, a down to earth comedic force of nature, and one of the most in demand voices of diversity in comedy. He’s appeared on VICELAND, TV One, BET and co-starred in 2016’s Oscar nominated film “I Live Here”. As an activist, he has taken on race issues, homophobia and helped fight to end LGBT youth homelessness. A nearly two decade comedy veteran and pioneer, his comedy offers riveting and fresh takes on race, religion, politics and sexuality—you know, all those things you aren’t supposed to talk about in polite company.
