DuShon Monique Brown and the jazz band From the Edge featuring Laurie Lee Moses will entertain more than 600 women and men at the 6th Annual “Cruising 6 … Because We Care” Jazz Brunch Cruise sponsored by the Lesbian Community Cancer Project.

Scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 16, the fundraiser begins with a champagne pre-reception featuring complimentary champagne, bloody marys and hors d’oeuvres on the Odyssey cruise ship on Navy Pier at 10 a.m. The band From the Edge will entertain the special pre-cruise guests. Regular registration begins at 11 a.m., boarding starts at 11:30 a.m. and the boat sets sail from Noon until 2 p.m. Brunch, live music and a live auction round out the event for more than 600 “cruisers” on Lake Michigan.

Table Captains and volunteers are a key component for this annual benefit. Tickets for “Cruising 6 … Because We Care” are $90 for regular admission and $125 for a pre-reception featuring complimentary champagne and Bloody Marys. Premiere “Passport” tickets are $250 and $500, and these include special give-away items.

A special “after-cruise” party will be held for the first time this year, at Joe’s Be-Bop Cafe on Navy Pier, featuring singer DuShon Monique Brown. The after-party, hosted by Javier Barajas, Kasey Reese and Troy Ford, is 2:15-4:30 p.m. and $10 with a cruise ticket, or $25 for the after-party only.
