On Jan. 17, over 300 partygoers packed the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave., for the Sapphic Factory: Queer Joy Party, hosted by TSN Parties. Sapphic Factory began in 2023 as a traveling party with events held throughout North America. This marked the party’s second stop in Chicago.

TSN Parties hosts a variety of themed DJ party experiences, ranging from The Nu-Metal Party to The Taylor (Swift) Party. While the company is not exclusively LGBTQ+, marketing representative Steve Soboslai emphasized that the LGBTQ+ community holds a special place in their mission.
“We’re a group of friends who adore the LGBTQ+ community. From day one, we’ve focused on centering LGBTQ+ voices through the artists, DJs, and causes we champion, creating joyous spaces where everyone feels celebrated.”

The night featured DJ Jillian, who traveled from St. Louis to deliver her signature energy to the party. This marked her tenth time spinning for Sapphic Factory events.
“About 60 to 75 percent of the music I play at these parties comes from queer artists or are queer favorites, like “Dancing Queen,“ for example,” DJ Jillian explained. “It’s queer music that I already love and adore. Being able to sit up there, dance to it with my community, and play it for them is such a joy.”
Among the attendees was Haley Yetter, who traveled from Louisville for the Chicago event. Having previously attended two Sapphic Factory parties in her hometown, Yetter was excited to experience the Chicago edition. “I’m out and here and proud of who I am,” she said. “And I love that this event is catered to us as Sapphics.”
Another attendee, Karalyn Collazo, emphasized the inclusive atmosphere. “The best thing about this night is that we get to dance to great music in a safe environment,” she said.

A portion of ticket sales went to various non-profits. “Giving back has also been a big part of what we do,” said Soboslai. “Through our partnership with PLUS1.org, we’ve raised nearly $10,000 in total for organizations like the LGBT National Help Center and, more recently, the PLUS1 x NOISE FOR NOW Reproductive Health Access Fund.”
“It’s about making a positive impact in the music world and coming together in person to be together.”
