Cook County’s downtown Marriage Court has been renovated and is reopening at its regular lower level County Building space at 69 W. Washington St. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, according to the Cook County Circuit Court.

The Marriage Court had temporarily relocated to the Daley Center on Oct. 27 to allow time to remodel the space. The renovation includes multilingual electronic signage that also complies with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements.

Couples interested in being joined in marriage or civil union may obtain a valid marriage or civil union license from the Cook County Clerk.

A valid marriage or civil-union license and a $10 administrative fee are required. Couples must obtain a marriage or civil union license at least one (1) day, but no longer than 60 days, before the ceremony.For those interested in an in-person marriage or civil union downtown, no prior scheduling is required, although couples should arrive 30 minutes before closing. Ceremonies are held Tuesday through Friday at 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 2-4 p.m. In-person ceremonies are held at 119 W. Randolph St. (lower level).
