Peter Bruce Rekdahl, 80, of Chicago’s Lake View neighborhood, formerly of Ravenswood, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, Peter graduated St. Louis Park Senior High School and attended the University of Chicago. Peter worked as the Information Technology Manager at Chicago Read Hospital.
He was largely a private person, but we do know that Peter enjoyed summertime visits to Minnesota’s North Shore with his sister. He read philosophy and loved opera and classical music, particularly Bach. He traveled to Turkey, Monaco and Italy and was both a former treasurer of Chicago Prime Timers and the longtime chairman of the Yesteryear Condo Association.
Peter collected art and antiques and was also a skilled organ player, which is no minor achievement.
He is survived by his nieces Erica (Andy) Crook and Tiffany (Drew) Aanenson; their children Gabrielle and Eva Kutzner and Nina and Liam Aanenson; and his dear friends David Lafferty, Alan Pulaski and Jane Grady.
Peter is preceded in death by his younger siblings Steven Rekdahl and Sheila (Scott) Marquis and parents Donald Henry Rekdahl and Marylu Louise Rekdhal (nee Krumholz).
The family has chosen a private green cremation. Burial of cremated remains will take place Friday, May 22, at 12:30 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery, 4001 N. Clark St. Please meet inside the front gate by 12:15 p.m. for procession to the gravesite.
Arrangements by Inclusive Funeral Care, 773-318-1305.
