Transmasc Society of Chicago (TMS) held a Sons of Olympus: A Night for Transmasc Celebration event May 30 at Center on Halsted, 36356 N. Halsted St.
The event was inspired by TMS’ namesake Olympus, and celebrated transmasculinity in all its regal, powerful and radiant forms.
TMS Founder Troy Talyor said, “We are so excited to be here tonight and celebrate our community … we are bringing people together to remind folks that trans men are here to stay.” He added that the mission of TMS is “to thrive” in Chicago. Taylor spoke about helping “our brothers in need” and how the $2,500 that was raised at this event will further their work.

“This has been a passion project for me for the last couple of months,” said Taylor. “I moved to Chicago a little over a year ago and I have been welcomed with open arms in this city. I’m so grateful to put my roots down here, to work and help this community and see how TMS grows. With your help we are able to give two trans men here in the community $200 of [mutual aid] support. This is exactly the type of work we want to continue to do.”

TMS leadership team member Ace Porter spoke about knowing he was a trans boy since he was four years old, and added that, “Trans visibility is what’s allowed me to finally own who I’ve always been. Being a part of the trans masculine community is exactly what little four-year-old Ace needed and exactly what adult Ace deserves.
“Creating and building the space for others to feel seen and heard. That just feels exactly where I’m supposed to be. TMS is and always will be a safe space to show up for our younger selves and celebrate our current versions.”
Fire Lord Annex, Mister Gentle and Penny The Dime wowed attendees (who also cheered them on) with their iconic, innovative and irreverent Drag King performances. DJ Avi spun tunes throughout the night.
Attendees were invited to participate in a gold, silver and white elegance outfit contest (the theme of the event). The top three winners received a Hot Trans Boy Summer tee-shirt.
The event also featured free flash tattoos by Lou Wheeler and tarot card readings by Toby Everhart.
