Luna Negra Dance Theater gave a preview Sept. 25 of their upcoming performance, Quinceñera, at the Mexican Fine Arts Museum

Eduardo Vilaro, founder and artistic director of Luna Negra, also answered questions about choreography and the troupe. ‘Choreography is about time, space and energy,’ he explained to onlookers.

Luna Negra treated the audience to a sneak peek of Vilaro’s Quinceñera, which will premiere at the dance theater’s debut performance Oct. 8 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance. Vilaro created Quinceñera in collaboration with other artists. ‘I love to be able to collaborate,’ Vilaro said. ‘It’s our debut at [Harris] and we’re very excited.’

‘This piece has actually taken quite a while,’ Vilaro added.

Quinceñera is one of five works by Latino choreographers that will be featured for the one-night-only performance, ‘Coreographos Latinos.’ One Score, One Chicago will perform Don Quixote Dances, accompanied by the CEO and president of Ravinia Festival and baritone Stephen Salters. The performance also features Pedro Ruiz’s Sonetos de Amor and Flabbergast by Gustavo Ramirez Sansano.

‘Coreografos Latinos’ is presented by the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum as part of its 2005 Sor Juana Festival, which will take place Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. at 205 E. Randolph. For tickets, call (312) 334-7777 or visit www.harristheaterchicago.org.
