Approximately 2,000 individuals are expected to convene at the Hyatt Regency, 151 E. Wacker, on Sept. 14-16 for the 16th annual Out & Equal Workplace Summit.

The summit brings LGBT employees, straight allies and human resource and diversity professionals together to discuss issues related to workplace equality and essential education, among other items. The event also offers strategic workshop categories that include general education, employee resource group effectiveness, and LGBT leadership.

Among this year’s line-up of summit keynote speakers will be George Takei, best known for his portrayal of Mr. Sulu in the TV and film series Star Trek; Nina Jacobson, president of Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group; Yolanda King, the eldest daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Coretta Scott King; and Richard Florida, a professor of public policy at George Mason University who wrote the best-seller The Rise of the Creative Class, which factors a so-called creative class, including LGBT people, into urban economic development.

The popular Out & Equal Workplace Awards ceremony will also take place. This event recognizes individual and corporate champions. Five specific award recipients will be honored with ‘Outie Awards’ on at the Sept. 15 Out & Equal Gala Awards Dinner, hosted by political humorist Kate Clinton.
