On June 7, students in the Noble Street Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) and Noble Street Charter School, located at 1010 N. Noble, filed a settlement agreement in federal court—bringing a relatively quick end to a suit that was initially filed April 18. The move ends the students’ lawsuit, which was brought by Lambda Legal, and establishes equal treatment of their school club.
The settlement agreement guarantees that for at least the next three years, the GSA will be able to hold fundraisers, have access to classrooms, advertise its meetings and have a spot in the high school yearbook.
Noble Street Charter High School opened on Aug. 19, 1999, to a freshman class of 127 students. The school added an additional freshman class each year and reached its capacity of 470 students in the fall of 2002.
