Hanukah, which commemorates the rededication of the Temple at Jerusalem 2,168 years ago, will have a special meaning for Congregation or Chadash this year. The city’s only GLBT synagogue is preparing for its own rededication in a new temple—at Emanuel Congregation, 5959 N. Sheridan. Or Chadash will begin holding regular services at Emanuel on Sat., Jan. 2, 10 a.m., followed by Friday services for the remainder of January.

Rabbi Larry Edwards has agreed to serve as the group’s second permanent Rabbi. Or Chadash will celebrate both of these milestones with a dedicatory service Friday, Jan. 23, 8 p.m. Edwards, who has served as Interim Rabbi since July, will lead the service, along with cantorial soloist Judith Golden.

For 23 years, Or Chadash shared a space with Second Unitarian Church on Barry.
