Supporters of civil unions in Illinois have planned a suburban civil unions day.
On May 3, civil union legislation supporters will meet at train stations in Cook, DuPage, Lake and Kane counties to pass out flyers to suburban train riders, emphasizing how the legislation will impact the state’s senior citizens.
HB 1826, the Illinois Religious Freedom and Civil Union Act, was authored by state Rep. Greg Harris, D-Chicago. The legislation would create civil unions in Illinois, allowing opposite- and same-sex couples the same marriage rights. The bill will soon come onto the House floor for a full vote.
A similar measure has been introduced in the state Senate.
Those interested in participating in the suburban action can contact Chris Jessup at 312-388-1941 and chris@civilunionsillinois.org or Bob Mueller at 630-541-7205 and mayatoddbob@aim.com.
See www.civilunionsillinois.org for up-to-date information, as well as flyers and petitions.
