Affinity Community Services—which serves the needs of the Black LGBTQ+ community, with a particular focus on Black women—will hold its annual Burning Bowl ceremony virtually on Saturday, Jan. 9.

At past Burning Bowls, attendees were asked to write down their challenges and negative thoughts from the previous year on paper that was instantly burned with candles over bowls.

Jacqueline Boyd will receive The Barbara "Robbie" Smith Award of Excellence, which is "given to an Affinity community member who exemplifies leadership, perseverance, strength, compassion, and integrity," according to a release. Among other things, e. nina jay will read poetry.

People can join on Zoom by registering at bit.ly/burningbowl2021; they can also watch the ceremony live at www.facebook.com/AffinityCommunityServices .
