Olympics: Women's soccer team advances to quarterfinals

United States women's national team (USWNT) forward Alex Morgan had a goal disallowed as the squad settled for a 0-0 tie with Australia in its final game of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics group stage, ESPN.com noted.

The result means that the USWNT qualifies in second position while Australia waits for later results to see whether it will qualify as the best third-place team.

Mary Fowler, a late substitute in the starting lineup for Caitlin Foord and making her Olympic debut, had an opportunity to put Australia ahead after 20 minutes—but her header ricocheted off the crossbar.

Sweden, which defeated the U.S. team 3-0, finished in first place in the USWNT's group.
