In women's professional soccer action, the Chicago Red Stars opened their season on March 25 at the San Diego Wave FC, losing 3-2.
The Red Stars started the match winning a series of calls for corner kicks. In the 17th minute, the team was finally able to convert. It happened after a ball from Mallory Swanson ricocheted around the box until Yuki Nagasato was able to blast it into the net, giving the Red Stars the early lead.
Swanson also scored for the Red Stars as the score at intermission was knotted at 2-2.
However, San Diego's Alex Morgan scored in the game's 89th minute to provide the final score.
The Red Stars will next take on the Houston Dash on Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m. CT at SeatGeek StadiumChicago's home opener.
On the men's side, the Chicago Fire FC (1-1-2) earned a hard-fought 3-2 win against Inter Miami CF (2-3-0) on March 25 at DRV PNK Stadium.
Three different Fire players (Chris Mueller, Carlos Teran and Kei Kamara) scored in the Fire's first win of the season to end Miami's undefeated run at home.
