Washington, DC Today LGBTQ Victory Institute the only organization dedicated to identifying and supporting LGBTQ public leaders released its new website "Pride & Progress: A history of LGBTQ political power in the United States." The website allows visitors to explore key moments in LGBTQ political history by year from José Sarria's history-making run as the first out LGBTQ candidate in 1961 to Pete Buttigieg's confirmation as U.S. Secretary of Transportation earlier this year. It includes historic images and little-known information about key moments in the history and in the coming months and years will continue to expand its collection.
The Pride & Progress website available at prideandprogress.org is also home to Victory Institute's recently launched LGBTQ Victory Hall of Fame and its 21 initial inductees. The induction ceremony will be held during LGBTQ Victory Fund's 30th anniversary virtual event this Sunday, May 2 at 7:30pm ET.
"Pride & Progress honors our political history and the contributions of those who served with courage to advance equality," said Mayor Annise Parker, President & CEO of LGBTQ Victory Institute. "It tells the story of a revolution in American politics from just a handful of elected officials anywhere in the nation to a rainbow wave of candidates elected at every level of government. And while it demonstrates enormous progress, it also reveals the milestones yet to be reached and the lavender ceilings left to be shattered. Pride & Progress celebrates our past and aims to inspire the leaders of the future."
About Victory Institute
