Windy City Times newspaper, founded in 1985, is publishing a limited-edition, four-color book featuring hundreds of covers from its own archives, plus covers from other LGBTQ Chicago media, including Outlines, BLACKlines, En La Vida, Identity and Nightspots,
This print book is only available via pre-order, or via the purchase of a PDF download.
See windycitytimes.com/book/ to order.
"With more than 470 images, this book is like a time capsule of Chicago LGBTQ history," said Kirk Williamson, longtime WCT art director and designer of this book. "We lived through some incredible times, and it was great going into the archives to showcase the work of this community."
The book also features articles by WCT cofounder Tracy Baim and early WCT staffer Jorjet Harper, each taking a deep dive on the paper's history.
"I am so excited to have all of these covers in one place," Baim said. "We are working on digitizing a lot of our archives, since so much of our work existed prior to the expansion of the Internet. We have been so lucky to document the amazing historical arc of our community."
The print copy of the book is $49 plus $6 shipping and handling. Books must be ordered by June 7, and will be shipped by the end of June. All print copy orders come with a free PDF. People can also order just the PDF for $20. U.S. orders only. |
