The festival returns with 34 bands (including three DJs) representing 22 countries and spotlighting 10 local music groups. Now in its 22nd year of live, in-person programming, the festival features performances in 11 indoor and outdoor venues across Chicago.
In addition, this will be the 10th year the festival presents Ragamala—the largest all-night long presentation of live Indian classical music in the United States. This event will take place at the Chicago Cultural Center from Friday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m. to Saturday, Oct. 1, at 8 a.m.
Among the new developments is the Global Peace Picnic (Saturday, Oct. 1) expanding, with two stages and eight bands at the Humboldt Park Boathouse, 1301 N. Sacramento Ave. Chicago acts in the festival include Beats y Bateria (Saturday, Oct. 1, at 10 p.m. with Venezuelan/French act La China at Matryrs’, 3955 N. Lincoln Ave.); Surabhi Ensemble (Sunday, Oct. 2, at 5 p.m. with Italian musician Paolo Angeli at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 60th St.); Ana Eveling (performing Wed., Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. with Eva Salina at Schubas Tavern, 3159 N. Southport Ave.); and Malafacha (performing Friday, Oct. 7, at 9 p.m. with Mexican act Son Rompe Pera at Reggies Rock Club, 2105 S. State St.).
