It’s Time, Illinois held their annual benefit, “Transgender Pride: Not Just a Passing Fancy,” June 3 at Ann Sather’s. An award was presented to Kaethe Morris Hoffer, who until recently was with the policy office of the city of Chicago. In that role she began laying the groundwork for an amendment to the city’s Human Rights Ordinance to include gender variance. In her role as Commissioner on the Governor’s Commission on the Status of Women she drafted the bill for the Gender Violence Act. State Rep. Sara Feigenholtz also received an ITI award for her work on behalf of GLBT issues. The Chicago Lesbian Avengers also were honored, for their active support of transgender inclusion.
