More than 600 women and men helped raise funds for Chicago’s Lesbian Community Cancer Project last Sunday on the Odyssey, docked at Navy Pier. The 5th Annual Cruising … Because We Care was co-chaired by Javier Barajas, Kasey Reese and Pat Gilbert. The new acting executive director of LCCP was introduced to the crowd: Norma Seledon. Also, State Sens. John Cullerton and Carol Ronen, along with Rep. Sara Feigenholtz, presented a $30,000 state technology grant to the agency.
Seledon is the former executive director of Mujeres Latinas en Accion and she worked in the Latina Leadership program at Mujeres. She has presented at national conferences, including the National Council of La Raza, on domestic-violence issues.. She has also been active with Amigas Latinas for about four years.
