How grateful are we that Peter (Club 69) Rauhoffer hooked up with Celeda for the recent club smash “The Underground”? Very grateful! We’re equally grateful that the Grammy nominated producer and remixer is at the helm of This Is *69 (*69 Records), this various artists compilation which features the aforementioned Celeda, as well as a cover of Clivilles and Cole’s “Do It Properly” by The Collaboration (Rauhoffer and Victor Calderone), That Kid Chris’s “Satisfied,” Magic Cucumbers’ “Stand Up!,” and Super Juicy’s “Give It To Me,” to name a few. Rising out of the “twisted” ashes, Peter Rauhofer resembles a phoenix in flight.

If Patti Smith is the “godmother of punk,” then Susan Morabito is the “godmother of the circuit,” the elder states-woman of the scene. On Global Groove/The New Groove (Centaur), the new groove begins with a Latin beat on “Sunshine” (DJ Chus and David Penn) and maintains its energy level as well as its Latin flavor throughout, as you can hear on cuts such as “Timba” (Awa Band), “Pasilda” (Afro Medusa), and “Bang” (Robbie Rivera presents Rhythm Bangers). There are also a couple of tracks that recall disco’s heyday (“Music Is Life” by Groove Junkies & Mijan, “Philly Groove” by Romain & Danny Krivit w/Linda Clifford) giving the “new groove” and old school feel.

Popular Twist night club DJ Connie Casserole (whose name is a reference to “The Boys In The Band”) shows off her crowd-pleasing turntable skills on Twist (OneTribe) an 11-track mix disc. Abel (a/k/a Ralphi Rosario and Abel Aguilera, a/k/a Rosabel) kick it off with the busy “Control,” and Ms. Casserole exhibits good taste (and fashion sense) by including tracks by Oscar G (“Make Me Feel”) and Celeda (“The Underground”).

When our mothers were our age or younger, home perms were all the rave. If they were our age now, it would appear that home raves are all the rave. Sound Tribe Sector 9’s Offered Schematics Suggesting Peace (Landslide) supplies the beats and jams, all you have to do is round up the glow-sticks, pacifiers and bottled waters. In fact, you may find yourself thirsty by the time the low-dosage “Water Song” washes up, which is a good time for a drink of water and another hit of whatever it is that is propelling you. You’ll need it for some of the tracks that follow, especially ” … and some are angels” and the ten-and-a-half-minute “EB.”
