As heavy rainclouds invaded the skies, and sheets of rain pelted the North Side of Chicago on June 8, Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted St., hosted a giddy crowd at its 10th annual Trans Ice Cream Social.

Trans individuals and allies scarfed down gluten-free Peppermint Patty, Honey Vanilla Bean, Brambleberry Crisp, Double Dough and Peanut Butter ice creams. They also mingled, created art and discussed their experiences with one another.

This year the Social expanded its tabling options with youth and trans organizations such as T Fem, Broadway Youth Center, Camp Lilac, Transmasculine Alliance Chicago and Chicago Therapy Collective all participating. A new t-shirt was also rolled out. Recent Windy City Times 30 Under 30 inductee Keinan Carpenter also spoke.

Sponsors included Genderqueer Chicago Jeni’s Ice Cream, Atlassian, Accenture and Vaca’s.
