More than a dozen GLBT and supportive youth were honored last week by the Chicago chapter of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network. The 6th annual Youth Scholarships and Awards included presentations from GLSEN, TNT Bankers, Chicago Professional Networking Association, FUEL Youth, Affinity, Exelon/ComEd Pride, the Barajas-Reese Latino Youth Scholarship, and the Aixa Diaz Latina Youth Scholarship. There was also the annual Youth Speakout, an exciting opportunity to hear from youth about their own experiences and goals. 1. Barajas/Reese winner Tony Alvarado. 2. The GLSEN Al Wardell scholarship went to Cherese Davis, while FUEL’s Creative Arts Youth scholarship went to Louise Gumbs. 3. The Rustin Legacy Award, funded in part by Affinity, was presented by Affinity’s Ann Morgan-Powell and Chris Smith (not pictured) to Isaiah Perry. See pages 10-11. Photos by Tracy Baim.
