Nancy Davison writes to the Eugene Register-Guard in support of her gay and lesbian friends: “Guy Tansley (letters, April 3) says all gays and lesbians participate in an ‘extremely dangerous lifestyle’ and ‘have to live a seditious and clandestine life.’ If this is true, it’s because Tansley and his ilk think the way they do, creating a society in which any lifestyle that goes against their narrow morals and norms is considered deviant.

“I’ve often wondered what it is homophobes are afraid of. I have many gay and lesbian friends and find them delightful, intelligent and dedicated to building a community in which all of us can live openly and without fear. Does Tansley envision such a community as well, or does his vision for the ‘pursuit of happiness’ apply only to those who are straight? Something to think about.”
