The Mt. Prospect Village Board has cut funding to a school program connected to the Boys Scouts, reports the Tribune. The move was made at least in part because of the Boy Scouts of America policy banning gays.
The 4-3 Village Board vote denied $3,000 in federal funds to Learning for Life, which was to use the money for career and values education courses. While the program itself apparently was under fire for not showing that they helped low- and moderate-income students, it did not help that it was also connected to the Boy Scouts. Bill Reddy of the Plan Commission “questioned the funding” because of the Scouts’ views, the paper said.
