To kick off its 20th season, the Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus will perform its holiday concert at the Athenaeum Theater on Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8. The Lakeside Pride Concert Band presents “Peace on Earth” Sunday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Preston Bradley Center, 941 W. Lawrence. The annual Sleigh Ride holiday concert opens the third season by Chicago’s gay and lesbian community symphonic band. A highlight of the concert program will be the Broadway United Methodist Choir joining the ensemble to perform an arrangement of Samuel Ward’s “America, the Beautiful.”
The lyrics were penned by a lesbian English professor, Katharine Lee Bates, and were inspired in part by the professor’s visit to Chicago during the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition.
