Illinois’ statewide gay-rights organization honored two bar associations and two judges for their leadership and support of equal rights for gays and lesbians in Illinois.
Equality Illinois, during the Sept. 19 event at Maggiano’s Restaurant, presented its “Legal Awards” to former Chief Judge Donald O’ Connell and Chief Judge Timothy Evans.
In addition, the Illinois State Bar Association was recognized for its efforts to make discrimination based on sexual orientation illegal, and the Chicago Bar Association for being the first to organize a committee on the legal rights of gays.
Attorney Bill Borah was chairman of the event, organized by the Lawyers Committee of the Equality Illinois Educational Project.
