While Chicago was not successful in landing the 2006 Gay Games®, local supporters of the international Gay Games® movement were successful in attracting the 2003 Annual Meeting of the Federation of Gay Games to the Windy City. Scheduled for Nov. 10-14, 2003, delegates from as many as 25 countries will travel to America’s heartland for plenary discussions, committee meetings and Board elections for the international sports and culture body. Topics for discussion will include a review of the November 2002 Gay Games® in Sydney.
The 2003 Annual Meeting is being hosted by Chicago Games, Inc., the organization formerly known as Chicago 2006, and Team Chicago, a member of the Federation of Gay Games formed to maximize participation by Chicago in the Gay Games® every four years. Volunteers are being sought to assist with the planning and implementation of the meeting. In all cases, women, people of color, and persons with disabilities are especially encouraged to volunteer.
Outreach: The Federation reaches a global audience, but the local effort will offer special outreach to GLBT sports and culture leaders in Mexico, Central and South America; women and people of color regardless of geographic location; and local organizers in the greater Midwest. Those fluent in Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese are specially encouraged.
Social Event Coordination: This committee is responsible for planning activities for the visiting partners of Annual Meeting participants.
Technical Coordination: Responsibilities will include reviewing technical requirements for the Annual Meeting, assembling and prioritizing a technical needs list, acquiring computer equipment, network setup and arranging for technical support. Also needed: a webmaster.
Transportation Coordination: Responsibilities will include serving as liaison with public transportation entities as well as planning and arranging for delegate airport and event transportation.
Hosted Housing Coordination: Responsibilities will include identifying a plan for securing local people willing to house Federation delegates in their homes.
