Success for Youth
Anti-Smoking Campaign
Illinois House Bill 318 passed in the House Consumer Protection Committee this month, making it harder for minors to purchase tobacco products at Illinois retailers. The bill requires all of these products to be displayed behind a counter, inhibiting shoplifting and encouraging proper identification at the same time. State Rep. Karen Yarbrough sees the bill as a huge success in her campaign to end youth smoking, saying, ‘This is a simple measure with a simple concept—do we value the future health and welfare of our children enough to move a dangerously addictive, cancer causing product out of their reach? The answer must be yes!’
