HIV/AIDS+ mothers, guardian relatives and pre-school children held a press conference May 5 to protest Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s decision to eliminate specialized child care for HIV/AIDS-affected children, said the Children’s Place. As of July 1, nearly 60 Chicago-area HIV/AIDS-affected preschool children will be stripped of nursing care, early childhood education, mental health counseling, and turned out of their childcare facility, Children’s Place said.

For the entire month of May, the food provided by Vital Bridges to 490 low-income men, women and children with HIV and AIDS on Chicago’s South Side will be paid for by a grant from the Sara Lee Foundation. Vital Bridges is the merged agency of Open Hand, Community Response, and HIVCO.
Swedish Covenant Hospital unveils Faces of Compassion, a public art exhibit on the 150-foot pedestrian bridge at their campus on Foster and California. The exhibit marks National Hospital Week.
