Cirque du Sweat, Under the Big Top!, runs May 19-June 14 at National Pastime Theater.

‘She floats through the air with the greatest of ease … ‘ NOT!!!!! In classic Sweat Girl style, these comediennes allow themselves to fall free form into sharing their distinctive takes on the chaos of life’s inevitable transitions. The topsy turvy world of Cirque du Sweat features four energetic Sweat Girls who offer up an inventive spin on the traditional solo monologist show. Live music, dance, side show freak characters, and a femme fatale of Amazonian proportions all add to the heart and hilarity that you’ve come to expect from what the Chicago Reader calls ‘the audacious, irreverent Sweats!’

Cirque du Sweat is written and performed by Sweat Girls: Cindy Hanson, Clare Nolan, Martie Sanders, and Pamela Webster. Adding their talents to this collaboration are clarinetist and musical director, Teri Foster; choreographer, Ann Boyd (Running with Scissors Artistic Director); and offering her editorial eye, Dorothy Milne (Lifeline Theatre Artistic Director and fellow Sweat Girl). Kristi Pettipren’s whimsical freak posters, Martie Sanders’ 15-ft female effigy, and Charlie Jolls’ lights texturize the evening.
