Founded in 1973, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan is one of Asia’s oldest contemporary dance companies, with artistic roots both in traditional Asian dance and in Western ballet. The troupe, still under the direction of founder Lin Hwai-min, is a rare visitor to Chicago. Cloud Gate’s appearance here for two performances only, May 28 and 30, features the United State premiere of ‘Cursive,’ a work inspired by the brushwork of Chinese calligraphy masters, danced to original music by Shanghai composer Qu Xiao-Song. At the Auditorium Theatre, which co-commissioned the work; (312) 902-1500; $25-$50.
