Two men who verbally assaulted Lakeview activist and businessman Lee Neubecker pleaded guilty May 20 to disorderly conduct and were given three months probation and 20 hours of community service each for their offense.

On April 14, the men shouted ‘homo’ and other slurs at Neubecker near Halsted and Buckingham. The men were surprised to see two police officers nearby, and a car chase resulted.

That quick police response caused Neubecker to become part of the organizing force to save the Town Hall 23rd Police District station, long rumored to be at risk of closing or merging with another district.

A rally in support of Town Hall is set for Thursday, May 29, 6 p.m., Halsted and Addison, and will feature speakers from a variety of community groups.
