I had the pleasure of meeting Gerardo approximately 10 years ago at my first Queer Nation meeting above Ann Sather’s on Belmont. I always thought very highly of Gerardo. He always had a voice to speak for what he believed in and for what he wanted to educate people on. Gerardo will be missed by so many people. I miss him; even though we didn’t speak to one another often, we always knew we were there to support one another.
I wanted to share this poem that I keep dear to my heart and when I read now it I think of Gerardo.
Keep your thoughts positive
Thoughts become your words
Keep your words positive
Words become your Behaviors
Keep your behaviors positive
Behaviors become your habits
Keep your habits positive
Habits become your Values
Keep your values positive
Values become your destiny.
To me, Gerardo (aka mi hermano) Values became his destiny.
