The Advocate.com reported Oct. 23 that Patricia Ireland has been fired as chief executive for the YWCA of the USA, six months after she was hired. According to The Washington Post, the organization said it ‘proved to be the wrong platform’ for her advocacy on women’s issues.

Ireland, 58, headed the National Organization for Women for 10 years. But conservatives went into high gear with her YWCA hiring, attacking the agency where it hurts most—among funders. Traditional Values Coalition was her staunchest opponent.
