The search was on Monday throughout Edgewater and Andersonville for panels from the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt. A duffel bag of six panels, sewed into a 12 x 12 display, was stolen from a car on Clark Street just north of Foster some time on Sunday.

The panels were picked up by a Northbrook teacher Sunday from the NAMES Quilt’s Chicago office. All people displaying quilts are given a teach-in that includes a warning not to leave the panels unattended in a vehicle. The 12 x 12 display was for a Northbrook school.

Police and Streets and Sanitation officers were alerted to the theft and many volunteers are scouring the neighborhood to see if the person just dumped them in the area once they realize they would not be valuable to them.
