Big Chick’s bar, facing the loss of its liquor license after the liquor commission found it violated a little-enforced state law about distance between a house of worship and a bar, is continuing to battle against the city’s liquor commission. In the meantime, a bill designed to change the state law fell three votes short last week in the state House.
Openly gay Rep. Larry McKeon will reintroduce the measure this week, saying the bill failed because his colleagues did not understand it.
Illinois law prevents taverns from being located within 100 feet of schools, hospitals and houses of worship. The bill would change the 100-foot rule to apply only to the main entrance.
